The following training opportunities are available for parents or other caring adults:
TAKING ASSET BUILDING PERSONALLY (TABP) Study Groups
Through years of research, the Search Institute of Minneapolis identified 40 developmental assets-or essential building blocks-needed by young people to grow into healthy, caring and responsible adults. These assets have a powerful, positive effect on our children: succeeding in school, helping others, valuing diversity, exhibiting leadership, resisting danger, delaying gratification, and overcoming adversity.
If you would like to learn more about incorporating the assets in your life, you will want to take this six session study group. Participants will learn about the 41 developmental assets, and develop skills that will help you be more effective in building assets.
For more information on TABP please contact Lori Maitski at lori@projectcornerstone.org
or 351-6457.
To schedule a study group for your school please contact Linda Silvius at linda@projectcornerstone.org or 351-6482.
ASSETS 101 or INTRODUCTION TO ASSETS
This two-hour training course provides you with an overview of the assets, current Santa Clara County survey results, information about Project Cornerstone, and ways to intentionally build assets in your life. This training can be used to fulfill volunteer requirements for ABC parents and Lunch Time Fun. To find out more information contact Lori Maitski at lori@projectcornerstone.org or
351-6457.
ABC PARENT TRAINING
Project Cornerstone ABC Parents spend time in the classrooms of their child’s elementary school using literacy to address issues like student to student respect and how to avoid being the victim of a bully, as well as values like honesty, caring, and responsibility. Each month the parents meet as a group to review the story and lesson plan for the upcoming month! If you are interested in becoming a part of this rewarding activity at your school, please contact Lori Maitski at lori@projectcornerstone.org or 351-6457.
LOS DICHOS DE LA CASA
Volunteers read bilingual Spanish-English books related to their cultural heritage and lead asset-building activities and discussions with the entire class. If you are interested in becoming part of Los Dichos as your school, please contact Deanna Perez at 351-6462 or deanna@projectcornerstone.org.
NOTE: Documents are in PDF format and require Adobe Acrobat Reader, which can be downloaded free of charge.
