Schools
According to the UCLA Center for Mental Health in Schools, bullying is by far the biggest violence problem on school campuses today, with negative outcomes not only for bullying victims but also for bullies and the school community as a whole: the presence of bullying creates a climate of fear and uncertainty, affecting all students’ ability to learn. In fact, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Academy of Family Physicians all recognize bullying as a type of violence with significant impact on children’s and teenagers’ health.
Students at schools with a positive climate where bullying isn’t tolerated generally report higher grades, fewer suspensions, less anxiety and depression, and less substance use. Project Cornerstone’s School Partnerships programs empower students, school staff, and parents to decrease bullying and create caring, supportive, safe environments where all students feel valued and respected.
